In The Swim Of Things

Sometimes I need a break from all the heavy reading I do. A rom-com, In the Swim of Things by Tracie Banister, is a fun story about Kyra Goodwin who dons a tail and swims in an aquarium. She falls for a hunky surfer, Cade, whose employer threatens her job and favorite beach. The environmental theme makes the story interesting and relevant. And the merwrangler, Declan, and her family drama throw in a couple of monkey wrenches.

It’s been a while since I read the book, but as I recall the sex scenes are funny and there is a troublesome house bird. There is a good balance of funny setups and intelligent moments about activism and the environment. I laughed out loud and rooted for the main character. It’s a great summer read, or if you want to read about the warmth during those cold months.

In the Swim of Things is one of my favorite mermaid book covers. It pretty much says it all: a mermaid, the beach she wants to save, and her love interests.
