Hola Merfolk!
I read a cute trilogy by H.P. Mallory and J.R. Rain called the Midlife Mermaid. The covers are fun too. The titles are inspired by movies-The Girl Next Door, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and A Walk To Remember.
The Mermaid Next Door is book one. The cute story is about a naïve mermaid who escapes her soon-to-be macho merman, Cullen. Her husband Evard has died, and now she must marry his brother, Cullen. Her best friend, Mara, who has already married Cullen helps Eva escape. Eva swims to the shore of Shell Harbor. Eva always seems to find helpful friends. She is going to need lots of friends because Cullen is coming after her. Tom, the dog, befriends her and takes her to his owner, Wendy. Something in Wendy’s past nudges her to help Eva. Sawyer comes in a little late in the story. I would have liked to have seen the romance blossom sooner. Ultimately, it’s a story of friendship. The book is appropriate for ages sixteen and up.
Gentlemen Prefer Mermaids is book two. Mermaid Mara visits her best friend Mermaid Eva with selfish intentions. Mara helped Eva escape in book one, but now life is bad for Mara, and she wants Eva to come home to the sea. I would have liked if Wendy had been more involved in helping Eva in the second book. Sawyer is also in Eva’s life with the promise of a budding relationship. A new man comes around named Marshall, and Sawyer is suspicious of him. And then Cullen finds Eva, eager to take her home to the sea and make her his wife. Eva is happy living life on land. I’m looking forward to book three to see if Eva and Sawyer fall in love.
In A Mermaid to Remember, book three, Eva, Sawyer, and Mayer are recouping from a fight with Cullen. Eva is always looking over her shoulder, afraid Cullen will kill her. I’m glad Wendy returns, and that Eva tells her best friend on land her secret. The story ends with the way everyone wants it to end. You’ll have to read the book to know what happens to Cullen. And yes, Sawyer and Eva end up together.
The Midlife Mermaid Trilogy is a light read to escape this crazy world we live in.
